    REGISTRATION FOR ALUMNI BAND IS NOW LIVE!

    PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST CAREFULLY FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

    As in past years, there are several participation level options:

    · Marching Group – Be part of the marching block, learn the drill, attend the game, play in the stands, and perform at halftime. All rehearsals are MANDATORY.

    · Sideline Squad – Same as “Marching Group”, but instead of marching in the block at halftime, you will play from the sideline. This is a good option for those that cannot attend the Friday marching rehearsal or who do not wish to march the drill. The Saturday rehearsal is required; all rehearsals are recommended.

    · Stands Only – You want to attend the game and play in the stands, but will not be on field at halftime.

    · Tailgate Only – You are not able to attend the game or participate in the band, but would like to join us at the tailgate before the game.

    Please note that even if you cannot participate in this year’s Alumni Band via any of the four above options, all SDMB Alumni and their families (as well as current SDMB members) are welcome at the Sunday picnic.

    As has been the case for the past couple years, a longer lead-time requirement from our t-shirt vendor means we will have a short registration.

    Early Bird registration prices will run through Sep 29. The prices will increase on Sep 30, so don’t delay! (NOTE: The registration site currently says the price increase is on Sep 23, but we’re getting that changed.)

    REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE ON OCTOBER 13.

    We apologize for the short registration window, but we will not be able to take any registrations after Oct 13.

    OCTOBER 13 WILL BE THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER.

    The registration cost is $35 early bird, $45 normal (with an extra charge for shirts XXL and larger). This cost includes registration, game admission for alumni band members, t-shirt, name tag, and tailgate meal.

    This year we will once again offer a “shirt only” option for those that would like a shirt but cannot participate. Also, participants have the option to purchase extra shirts. (PLEASE NOTE: since our shirt is part of our identification and our admission “ticket” for the game, extra shirts will not be available until after Homecoming. The price for extra shirts includes shipping. If you select the “shirt only” option or purchase an extra shirt, you WILL NOT be able to pick it up at check-in.)

    You can purchase extra tickets to our tailgate party for friends and family for $20/each during the registration process. We may have a small number available for $25/each at Homecoming. Please note that these tickets are only for our tailgate party. They are not game tickets.

    We’ll once again be sitting near the current band, but this year we will be a couple sections away. Please note that our space is limited and ONLY registered Alumni Band participants will be permitted to sit with us. If you’re interested in purchasing extra game tickets for friends and family in the adjacent section, please see the other pinned featured post by Bridget. WE DO NOT HANDLE GAME TICKETS IN ANY WAY.

    ALUMNI BAND PARTICIPANTS DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE A GAME TICKET FOR THEMSELVES.

    We also must remind everyone that:

    NO ALCOHOL IS PERMITTED AT REHEARSALS

    NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL IS PERMITTED AT THE TAILGATE PARTY

    NO ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED IN THE STANDS

    Thursday 11/07 (Optional)

    · Informal gathering/hang out and early packet pickup

    · Location: TBD (should have this finalized soon)

    · Time: TBD, probably 5pm-8pm

    Friday 11/08

    · Check-in – TBD, probably 3-3:45pm, outside the new Band Field

    · Alumni rehearsal with current band – TBD, probably 4-6pm, ASU Band Field

    · Alumni music rehearsal – TBD, probably 6-8pm, ASU Band Field

    Saturday 11/09

    · Morning rehearsal – TBD depending on game time

    · Tailgate party – Sparky’s Touchdown Tailgate, 6th St between Forrest and College, time TBD (about 3hrs prior to game time)

    · Game – Time TBD

    · Possible post-game gathering – TBD depending on game time

    Sunday 11/10 (Optional)

    · Picnic and Coach Fleming remembrance – Family welcome

    · Location: TBD (working on Kiwanis Park but not certain yet)

    · Time: TBD

  • Update – Honor Coach’s Life in November – Game Day

    What do we have… SUN DEVIL PRIDE!

    Come and show your Sun Devil Pride and honor Coach’s life with us.

    As a family, we feel the very best way to honor his life is by spending time together, reliving old memories with friends and making great music.

    You are all invited to attend the

    UCF vs. ASU game on November 9, 2024 (game time tbd) where we will commemorate his legacy.

    It won’t be the same without each of you! We are grateful to Jim “Hud” Hudson and the University for putting a great deal of effort into honoring him with the entire SDMB Family both past and present. We hope you will help us create the largest Alumni Band in school history. Wouldn’t it be awesome to play some of Coach’s favorite songs with a field completely full from endzone to endzone?

    He would want us to catch up, laugh, be together, put on a great show and hug it out. We know this involves travel plans for many of you so we wanted to get this on your calendar.

    More details to come, but here is a tentative outline:

    Friday- November 8th- Rehearsal with the current SDMB on the band field to prepare for the game. Rehearsal starts at 4pm. Check in will start earlier based on the number of people.

    Saturday- November 9th- Game time is TBD and may not be known until the week prior to the game. Other activities that day may include another rehearsal, a pre-game tailgate and, of course, the concert on the stairs.

    Sunday- November 10th- Family picnic to allow everyone to share stories, catch up with each other, and honor Coach.

    A few answers to questions you may have:

    Why aren’t we doing this on ASU Homecoming?

    There are a lot of logistical factors that play a part in making this a true celebration of life and honoring the legacy that Coach created here at Arizona State. Please know that the university has been incredibly supportive and eager to make this celebration the best that it can be. Some of the logistics are just exceptionally difficult on a game like Homecoming. Moving to a different game will help make the experience easier and more about Coach than about all the other things that go into a campus-wide event like Homecoming. Among the Homecoming concerns were seating in the stadium and the current SDMB hectic Homecoming schedule. Additionally, this game is on a 3 day weekend which will allow for an extra day of travel and it doesn’t interfere with Thanksgiving travel plans.

    There isn’t a day that would be perfect for everyone. It’s an impossible part of planning, but if you can’t make it, know that we will feel your presence and Sun Devil spirit.

    How will I hear about the final details when they are ready?

    Well, obviously, if you are on Facebook, we can reach you with details through our Living Tribute page or through the Devil’s Horns Facebook group.

    Do you keep in touch with SDMB Alums who aren’t on Facebook? We want to reach as many people as possible. ��Are you thinking about attending? We need to start planning for numbers now.

    Help us out by completing this link. You can both update your contact information and let us know if you are able to make it (no commitment yet, registration will be active in early August). But this will help us better communicate with the masses.

    I can’t march, but I want to still play. I can’t play my instrument, but I want to be included. I need an instrument. How much will it cost to participate in the Alumni Band festivities?

    All great questions. We are working those plans out and will get the information put together as soon as we can. Just mark the weekend down. Make your plans to be there. We will take it from there.
